Exercising and your Acne – Preventing Acne through Exercise.
What do acne and exercise have to do with each other?
Not only is moderate exercise good for your physical fitness, but it helps keep your skin healthy, too. A proper exercise routine will help you get and keep you strong and reduce stress, too. (Stress is also a major factor in increased acne symptoms).
If you find that your exercise isn’t helping your acne or even hurting it, you might want to be more conscientious in the way you do those exercises. Improperly-done exercise can not only hurt your workout, but the added (unwanted) stress on your body can, again, trigger an acne outbreak.
Acne Breakouts from Bad Exercising
Here are the questions you should ask yourself if you want to focus your exercise routine toward acne treatment: What sort of workout can you do? How hard can you push yourself in your workout? What clothes are you wearing?
Mark the last question especially. Exercise-related acne is usually caused more by what’s on your body while you work out than what you do with your body when you’re at the gym. As long as you’re careful about the fabrics in your work-out clothes (cotton is always better and more porous than, for instance, nylon,) you should be well on your way.
What about Acne and Make-up?
While exercising, make-up left on while working out or improperly washed off after the workout is done can do a lot to damage your skin and aggravate your acne problems. The wrong sorts of make-up can also trigger acne break-outs.
Noncomedogenic (non-clogging) cosmetic products are recommended for use, but even if your make up is specially made that way, they can still clog up pores if worn during a heavy workout session.
If you absolutely have to wear make-up while you work out, at least make sure you wash it off thoroughly after you finish.
